Life is but a poisoned chalice
Choices made for you
Forced upon at every turn
Even death if not of your choice

Born into a religion not of your choosing
Probably a Hindu in India
Definitely a Muslim in Saudi Arabia
Maybe a Christian in the USA
And certainly a Jew in Israel

Born into a social stature created by others
With a silver spoon if your parents were rich
In poverty if they were from the slums

Handsome or ugly
Slim or plump
Black or white
Short or tall
It is not of your will

Every decision comes with a consequence
Every step could be a pitfall
Every turn may lead you astray
What’s right for you may not be for others
