Depression
It did not catch him by surprise
It did not come suddenly
Like a thief in the night
It crept on him slowly
By the time it hit him, it was too late
He was all alone
Crying in the showers to hide his tears
His bottle of whiskey was empty
Not even halfway drunk,
Sleep never comes easy
With all the demons lurking in his mind
The veil over his reality
Seems to be more authentic each day
He was all alone
Putting on a mask to hide his despair
His life felt so empty
Companionship was a burden
Music was unwanted noise
Waking up was just to another nightmare
Drowning in his own thoughts
Living each day
Was, but just a Pyrrhic victory
