There once was a monkey who thought he was a donkey
Made an ass of himself but he didn’t care
Bananas were fine but he preferred the hay
Swinging from tree to tree was bothersome,
For he was intent on cantering down the meadow
The other monkeys were amused
Of their brethren who had gone loony
They raised a din whenever he tried to bray
Despite the cacophony, he was steadfast in his belief
After all, there’s no making a donkey drink against his will
But that wasn’t the end of the story
Growing lonely in the company of monkeys
The monkey, who thought he was a donkey,
Went to the town looking for a bride
Dressed in best grey suit
And a pink polka dot tie
He bade adieu to the troop of bewildered monkeys
Promising to return with his jenny
He cantered, trotted and galloped for days
Finally coming across a circus at the town’s edge
There he found love at first sight
He brought her back to his lair
To celebrate his betrothal with his closest friends
For he had fallen in love with a pony
And we know everything would be hunky dory
For this was no ordinary pony,
It was a pony, who thought she was a monkey
A match made by some twisted minds in heaven….
